Psalms 107-110: He Gives and Takes Away

 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
 And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation; - Ps. 107:33-36 NIV

Seasons come and seasons go, nations rise and fall, lush valleys become deserts and the desert becomes a watered garden.  It is all at the hand of the creator, all in his time and of his choosing.  What we are responsible is much more finite.  While we may think we are in control, that we have the power to change things for the good, all of our efforts are temporary at best.  We can build dams to tame the rivers and water the desert, but while they may last for our lifetime, another generation will see their demise.  It's only when we consider the works of God's hand that we glimpse his infinite power and realize just how small our puny efforts are.  His power lasts forever, he gives and takes away and no one can do anything about it.
