Psalms 144-150: Praise the Lord!

Praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD from the heavens,
praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels,
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars.
Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters above the skies
. - Ps. 148:1-4 NIV

There's a storm blowing in this morning with the wind shaking the windows as I write. Another day, another exhibition of God's power.  Another day, another cause for praise.

Most of the time, we wait for an answered prayer to praise the Lord.  We praise him for what he has done for us, but in truth, all of our praise should be solely because he is.  In our modern world, it has become easy to reduce God down to our size.  We no longer think of him as the one who said to Moses, "I am that I am.".  But He has not changed and while we may not recognize who he is, the heavens, the sun and moon, the angels and heavenly hosts know him.  Only a few through the years, like the Psalmist, have caught a glimpse of him and were able to say 'Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.'  Everything, sun, moon, stars...everyone, kings, priests, shepherds, let every thing praise the Lord!
